Prof. Henry Cutler from the Center for the Health Economy at Macquarie University in Sydney speaks at the HCHE Research Seminar on April 29 about the transitioning towards value-based healthcare. He compares the European efforts with Australia's Leading Better Value Care (LBVC) initiative, which was launched in 2017. The aim of the study was to develop a weighting of the public importance of LBVC goals to help local health networks make more informed trade-offs when making resource allocation decisions.
Healthcare systems in Europe are transitioning towards value-based healthcare (VBHC). Australia’s largest state, with 8 million people, is also transitioning, launching the Leading Better Value Care (LBVC) initiative in 2017. The initiative seeks to extract more value from government healthcare spending by improving health outcomes, improving patient and provider experiences and increasing care effectiveness and efficiency.
Prof. Henry Cutler is the inaugural director of the Centre for the Health Economy at Macquarie University (MUCHE), currently leading a team of 15 health economics researchers, eight PhD students and support staff. MUCHE is nationally recognised for undertaking applied health economics research on aged care, mental health, health technology, and integrated care. It is one of four research centres within the Australian Institute of Health Innovation, Australia's largest and most diverse health services research group.
