The shortage of skilled workers is strongly felt in Germany and also in the healthcare system. Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach therefore commissioned the Expert Council on Health and Care (SVR) to prepare a report on the skilled worker situation. In the report "Professionals in the healthcare sector. Sustainable use of a scarce resource", published in April 2024, the SVR found that Germany has a relatively large number of healthcare workers available compared to other countries. At the same time, however, bottlenecks are becoming apparent in the supply. HCHE Director Prof. Dr. Jonas Schreyögg and Deputy Chairman of the Expert Council on Health and Care reports in an interview with TK what suggestions the SVR is making to use healthcare professionals more specifically in the future.
