New DFG research project on COPD
28 January 2016, by Elena Granina
The Hamburg Center for Health Economics (HCHE) receives subsidies of around 90.000 € from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) for its research in the field of health economics. Prof. Dr. Tom Stargardt and Prof. Dr. Jonas Schreyögg will utilise the funding to economically evaluate Disease Management Programs for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in Germany. The evaluation will be based on data provided by the BARMER/GEK over the runtime of the project of approximately two to three years. Research will focus on whether the intervention results in cost reduction, improved medical outcomes (mortality, morbidity), enhanced process quality or a decreased utilisation of health services, respectively costs, compared to standard care.
