Lina Maria Ellegård from Lund University spoke in October 2024 about “Patient choice and socioeconomic disparities in the equality of Swedish healthcare”.

Lorens A. Helmchen
Lorens A. Helmchen from George Washington University explained at the Research Seminar in December 2024 the comparative effectiveness of cancer treatments on measures of health care use, cost, complications, recurrence and survival.

Line Bjørnskov Pedersen
Prof. Line Bjørnskov Pedersen from the University of Southern Denmark spoke about factors influencing the motivation of physicians to provide medical services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Benjamin Ukert
In January 2025, Benjamin Uckert from Texas A&M University visited the HCHE and presented his research findings on the effects of hospital closures in the US healthcare system.

Jannis Kück
Prof. Dr. Jannis Kück from the University of Düsseldorf visited the HCHE for a week in February 2025. Among other things, he shared his views on current research work in the field of data science in economics with the doctoral students in the Research Training Group.

Stefan Bauer
Stefan Bauer is Associate Professor of Algorithmic Machine Learning and Explainable AI at TU Munich and Senior Principal Investigator at Helmholtz AI. His research focuses on algorithms that learn causal relationships from high-dimensional data, provide interpretable decisions, and quickly adapt to new tasks. In July 2025, he was a guest at the HCHE.

Deirdre Weymann
Deirdre Weymann focuses on the use of real-world evidence in life-cycle health technology assessment. In a recent case study presented at the Research Seminar, on entrectinib for NTRK fusion-positive solid tumors, she illustrates how real-world data can inform decisions on value assessment and reimbursement.

Sabine Steinke
Univ.- Prof. Dr. med. Sabine Steinke focuses on the cost-effectiveness and quality of care in chronic pruritus. In a recent study, she analyzed differences between specialized and routine care based on a German patient cohort. She presented this study at the Research Seminar in May 2025.

Daniel Wiesen
Prof. Daniel Wiesen from the University of Cologne researches the stability of social preferences. He gave a lecture on this topic at the Research Seminar in June 2025.

Samantha Pollard
Dr. Samantha Pollard researches precision medicine and oncology, focusing on patient-centered studies and evaluation of new cancer treatments. She integrates patient preferences to improve access to innovative therapies. Dr. Pollard is an assistant professor at Simon Fraser University and a researcher at British Columbia Children’s Hospital.
Stays of one month or more

Line Bjørnskov Pedersen
Prof. Line Bjørnskov Pedersen from the University of Southern Denmark will spend one month in 2025 as a visiting researcher at the Hamburg Center for Health Economics, contributing her expertise on physician motivation, incentive structures, and the organization of general practice. During her stay, she will collaborate closely with PhD students at HCHE and support academic exchange.

Cameron Ellis
From May to July 2025, Cameron Ellis from the Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa (USA) will be a visiting researcher at the HCHE. During his stay, he will be available to advise on methodological issues and offer an exchange on established quantitative methods.

Meghan Esson
Meghan Esson from the Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa (USA) will be a visiting researcher at the Hamburg Center for Health Economics from May to July 2025. During her stay, she will also give a lecture in the HCHE Research Seminar.
