In summer 2022, Iris Kesternich will take over the Nucleus Professorship in Economics, in particular empirical health economics, and will also become a core member at HCHE. Iris Kesternich comes from the Belgian University of Leuven. Her research is based on three core areas: First, she studies the impact of non-monetary incentives on health and labour markets, such as the influence of professional norms on medical decisions. Secondly, Iris Kesternich looks at the long-term consequences of adverse events such as experiences of hunger or war on health and, thirdly, analyses both consumer preferences and provider behaviour in health and care markets. Iris Kesternich has been a professor of economics at KU Leuven since 2014. She completed her doctorate in economics at the University of Munich in 2010 and subsequently worked there as a postdoctoral researcher.
By awarding Nucleus Professorships, the Universität Hamburg aims to attract leading research personalities and promote the development of university potential areas such as health economics. The call for applications for the Nucleus Professorships (from Nucleus, Latin for "core") was made within the framework of the Excellence Strategy of the Federal Government and the Federal States.
