Press release from the Federal Ministry of Health: Federal Minister of Health Nina Warken has appointed the members of the health finance commission ("FinanzKommission Gesundheit"). They are tasked with developing measures for the long-term stabilization of contribution rates in statutory health insurance. The commission is composed of ten representatives from the fields of economics, medicine, social law, ethics, and prevention.
Federal Health Minister Nina Warken: "Statutory health insurance funds are under enormous financial pressure. By 2027, we will already be sliding into the double-digit billion range in terms of deficit. The need for action is obvious: far-reaching measures and structural reforms to stabilize the system are long overdue. The Health Finance Commission will present its first proposals for measures to stabilize contribution rates from 2027 onwards by March 2026. Our commission, which is composed of equal numbers of representatives from both sides, brings together outstanding experts with comprehensive and relevant expertise in all areas of statutory health insurance financing. Without political influence, they will scrutinize both the care structures and the revenue and expenditure sides.
