Federal Minister of Research Dorothee Bär presented awards to researchers funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Bamberg on 20 March 2026. Among the award recipients was Professor Marcella Alsan from Harvard University. She is conducting research with Dr. Esra Bayindir, Dr. Robert Messerle and Professor Jonas Schreyögg (HCHE) on the impact of the 2015/16 refugee movements on the German healthcare system. Professor Jonas Schreyögg from the University of Hamburg is her German research host and participated in the Humboldt Research Award Symposium in Bamberg with Professor Alsan.
The symposium in Bamberg (19-21 March 2026) provided the research award recipients and their host institutions with an opportunity to engage in dialogue across disciplinary and national boundaries. In addition to plenary lectures, time was allotted for discussions and personal exchanges, as well as the opportunity to meet members of the selection committee, the board of trustees, and staff of the Humboldt Foundation.
Each year, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation enables over 2,000 researchers from around the world to conduct research in Germany. The foundation maintains an interdisciplinary network of more than 30,000 Humboldt Fellows in over 140 countries worldwide – including 63 Nobel laureates.
You can find more information about the research project of Marcela Alsan and the HCHE team here (in German).
