As part of the HCHE Research Seminar, Professor Tinna Laufey Ásgeirsdóttir from the University of Iceland will present an econometric analysis identifying the reasons for significant discrepancies in monetary health values (QALY = Quality-Adjusted Life Years). According to her findings, it makes a considerable difference whether we pay for a health gain (desired value) or are compensated for a loss. The latter is often ten times higher. The calculation method also strongly influences the value. These insights will help physicians and patients to measure health values more realistically in the future.
Tinna Laufey Ásgeirsdóttir will present her findings at the HCHE Research Seminar on 27 April 2026 in Hamburg.
The HCHE Research Seminar is a forum for HCHE members and guests. Guest researchers invited present their current health economics research. The seminar takes place on selected Mondays from 16:00 to 17:15 pm. The full program can be found here.
